What is a PMI inspection?

A planned maintenance inspection is a regular, documented safety check carried out on every HGV and trailer in your fleet. The frequency is set by your operator licence maintenance declaration — typically every 6, 8, 10 or 13 weeks depending on the type of work your vehicles do.

During a PMI, a qualified technician checks all safety-critical items on the vehicle and records the findings. Any defects found must be actioned, and the paperwork kept for a minimum of 15 months — longer for some operators.
